LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) --Â One person was killed in a 5-vehicle crash that shut down a major highway in Meade County early this morning.
42-year-old Melissa Wilkins of Brandenburg, KYÂ was pronounced dead at the scene.
It happened around 6 a.m. on Hwy. 60. Kentucky State Police say an investigation shows a Mack truck ran a red light at the intersection of Hwy. 60 and Hwy. 144, causing a chain-reaction crash.
That truck ended up in a ditch several yards from the shoulder of the road. Police say the people in the other vehicles were not seriously injured and were treated at the scene.
Highway 60 at Highway 144 was closed for several hours while crews worked to clear the scene.
Kentucky State Police say neither alcohol nor drugs appear to have been a factor in the crash. No charges have been filed so far.
